Polenar Tactical, LLC. is a group of firearms training and security professionals with an extensive library on YouTube of general shooting and tactical classes.
"The Unit" is a video of a team shooting drill Polenar conducted on a target. It is an excellent example of small-unit tactics and teamwork.
This is seriously good training, both for what was done right, and for what was done wrong.
First -- the video portion (breakdown below):
0:14 - 0:21 -- Overhead tracking by surveillance aircraft; team is using IR tracker lights to identify their position for friendly aircraft.
0:22 - 0:49 -- Team advances through underbrush; Point man/Team Leader gives signal that he can see the enemy, as carrying a rifle at the aim indicates "enemy in sight".
0:50 - 0:59 -- Use of hand-arm signals to direct unit silently. Team face outboard, aiming their rifles at nothing.
1:00 - 1:21 -- Team Leader calls up his ghillie-suited sniper, having his second man assume overwatch, and issues instructions.
1:22 - 2:35 -- Sniper deploys forward, while team deploys to form the long end of an L-shaped ambush.
2:36 - 2:40 -- Overhead surveillance shows team deployment for attack.
2:41 - 2:56 -- Team Leader checks deployment of his element, then signals sniper to initiate attack by fire at her discretion.
2:57 - 3:03 -- Sniper initiates assault with single shot. Team engages target area with rapid suppressive fire on semi-auto. Sniper shifts to targets of opportunity.
3:04 - 3:17 -- Team Leader signals redeployment to second firing line. As the three shooters advance, Team Leader deploys into enfilading position against target area to support advance in the role of SAW gunner.
3:18 - 3:24 -- Team continues suppressive fire.
3:25 - 3:40 -- As Team Leader engages from enfilade, the operator on the extreme right flank begins moving behind team, towards and around the rear of the Team Leader. Right flank man - we'll call him No. 1 - fails to signal the man to his immediate left as he passes by. That man redeploys, signalling the man to his left. Sniper disengages firing on targets of opportunity at this time.
3:41 - 3:45 -- Team continues to redeploy into firing line around Team Leader's rear, to his left.
3:46 - 3:57 -- As the last man passes the Team Leader, the Team Leader disengages and moves to redeploy, moving behind his team, to their extreme left flank. Sniper has now ceased fire, and is fully in overwatch.
3:58 - 4:03 -- As Team Leader resumes supporting fire from the left, Nos. 1 & 3 being to bound forward.
4:04 - 4:09 -- No. 2 man advances behind 1 & 3, while Team Leader maintains support fire. No. 3 runs out of ammo in primary and transitions to secondary instead of reloading at 4:08.
4:10 - 4:21 --Team Leader advances to stay on line with team. No. 2 suffers primary weapons malfunction, and transitions to secondary at 4:15. Team reloads in staggered pattern, to maintain fire on target.
