As "Anakonda-16" gets underway in Poland, being the largest deployment of NATO combat forces (up to 31,000 or more, from 24 countries) in the defense organization's largest wargame training exercise since the end of the Cold War, one must ask the question: Are they trying to tell Vladimir Putin something with the name?

After all, the "Anaconda Plan" was the name given to the United States Federal Government's strategy for isolating and blockading the rebellious Southern Confederacy in 1861.
