Islamic State suicide bombers stormed several locations in the Kurdish city of Kirkuk this morning, killing at least 13 in an Iranian-operated power plant within the city. Iraqi government and Kurdish Peshmerga forces have responded, and are fighting to contain and eliminate the terrorists.
This attack comes as Iraqi government and Peshmerga forces have reached the town of Bartella, on the outskirts of Mosul, some 160km (100 miles) to the northwest. Mosul is one of the major cities in Iraqi, and the first major urban center to be captured by the brutal forces of the so-called "Islamic State", in June of 2014.
This attack is likely one of a series of upcoming counterattacks by the beleaguered terror group, as the offensive by uneasily allied forces continues.
